Technology is not yet widely used in Indonesia is actually not limited to use on the ATM card. Smartcard technology can also be used for various fields such as education for example, to store student data, the health sector to record a person's health history. Smartcard chosen because of better security than magnetic tape.
However as with magnetic stripe cards, smartcards also has limitations in terms of data storage capacity. Smartcard's ability to accommodate very limited data. The amount of data that can be stored in a smartcard great effect on a price to pay to get the smartcard.
"The greater the capacity smartcard, the more expensive prices too," said Muhammad Firdaus, a lecturer in the University August 17, 1945 (UNTAG) Surabaya, Wednesday (3 / 3).
Because that's the price of this man who was born Malang conduct research to minimize the data that can be inserted into the smartcard. So that it can save storage space and could eventually save the cost of purchasing a smartcard.
From his research, he worked 34 years to make a software that can compress or reduce the size of data that can be included in a smartcard.
Software called XCS (XML Compressor for Smartcard) can be used to compress the XML data type that can be included in a smartcard. In addition to compress the data, this software also has the ability to compress data expansion automatically when used.
In his research, Firdaus experimented with compressing UNTAG student academic data with high efficiency convincing enough, around 89%.
